THE ARTS IN SMITHFIELD AND ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY:
Smithfield is one of the regions most unique art destinations. Several galleries grace the historic downtown area with the Arts Center @319 at the helm. The town proudly displays its public art that celebrates the areas distinct history and traditions.
Smithfield Little Theatre, housed in a state-of-the-art facility, has made its name as one of the premiere community theaters in Coastal Virginia.
For music lovers, there’s always a concert scheduled or a musician playing on Main Street.

10:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.
The Arts Center @319
Sharing space with the Visitor Center, the Arts Center exhibits the works of local and regional artists, as well as hosting working studios for eight resident artists.
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Porcine Parade
The parade features eight life-size statues of pigs, painted by local artists to reflect the areas rich history, culture and recreation. The statues are all located downtown. Pick up a map showing their locations at the Visitor Center.
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Lundeen Bronze Statues
Smithfield boasts the USAs largest collection of life-size bronze statues by sculptor George Lundeen. Pick up a map showing the statue locations at the Visitor Center.
12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
Lunch: Smithfield Ice Cream Parlor
1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Tour of Smithfield Little Theatre
This all-volunteer, regional community theater produces 3 shows annually, as well as holiday events and children’s workshops. A guided tour is available by appointment. Contact Judy Winslow at the Smithfield Visitor Center at 757.357.5182.
2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
The Nelms House
Create your own work of art!This historic mansion offers an art gallery plus workshops on creating art from nature and recycled materialswith seasonal and holiday themes. Call ahead for availability and reservations.
4:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Smithfields LOVEwork
End your day with a group photo at our LOVEwork. The LOVE sign is located at the Visitor Center and playfully reflects the areas ties to the pork industry.
TWO DAY ITINERARY:
Consider doing half of the itinerary in the afternoon, and the other half the following morning leaving lots of free time to explore the areas shops or any other attractions that are of interest to you.
